Celebrating a Historic Partnership
The 1521 Marina Militare is a testament to Squale’s 65-year legacy in the watchmaking industry and its enduring partnership with the Italian Navy (which i named Marina Militare). This collaboration, which began forty years ago when Squale first supplied watches to the Navy, continues to be celebrated with this latest model.
2024 marks a significant year for the Italian Navy as it commemorates its underwater activities. The creation of the 1521 Marina Militare dive watch honors this milestone and reflects Squale’s dedication to producing high-performance, historically significant watches.
A Limited Edition Masterpiece
The 1521 Marina Militare is a limited edition of only 500 pieces, designed to be both a commemorative and high-performance watch. The choice of the 1521 collection is symbolic, as it was the first model supplied to the Navy by Squale. This new edition carries forward the legacy of its predecessors with exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Only a few of the original 1521 watches from the 1980s have survived, as they were returned and destroyed after military use, except for one preserved at the G.O.S Museum in La Spezia.
Elegant and Functional Design
The 1521 Marina Militare is designed to be the most elegant model in the 1521 collection. The 316L steel case features a brushed finish with brus bevels, complemented by a black dial with a brossé finish and applied polished steel indexes. These elements create unique plays of light that enhance the watch’s aesthetic appeal.
A distinctive feature of this model is the prominent use of the color orange, which holds special significance for both the Navy and Squale. The official Navy logo and the iconic minute hands of Squale diving watches are in orange. This limited edition watch showcases the Navy logo in orange at 6 o’clock and an orange SuperLuminova minute hand with a white edge, matching the SuperLuminova on the bezel’s first quarter.
The watch also displays the Italian Navy logo and the edition number on the caseback, adding historic and symbolic value to this unique timepiece.
Enhanced Functionality
To ensure maximum functionality, the 1521 Marina Militare comes with a water-resistant, black microfiber strap with orange stitching and an additional Squale-branded natural rubber black strap. These features make it a versatile and reliable companion for diving and everyday wear.
