RUF built hundreds of 911s. The 928? They built one…
This is it. The 928R, commissioned in 1989 by Samsung chairman Lee Kun-Hee and delivered to his collection that September.

The Build
RUF started with a Porsche-supplied body-in-white and finished it in Black over Wine Red leather. Under the hood, they took the 5.0-liter DOHC V8 from a standard 928 S4 and pushed it to 360 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Carbon ceramic brakes at all four corners. Alcantara steering wheel. RUF-embossed headrests. A speedometer that reads to 180 mph.

The details matter here. Automatic climate control. Electric sunroof. Rear-seat air conditioning. This wasn’t a track toy. It was a grand tourer built for someone who wanted the best of everything.

The Numbers
1,568 miles. That’s what the odometer showed when this car was catalogued for auction. Lee Kun-Hee kept it. RUF eventually reacquired it after his passing, brought it back to Pfaffenhausen, and fitted 19-inch five-spoke alloys to clear an updated brake package.

The estimate sits between $400,000 and $500,000. For context, RUF BTRs based on 911s have sold for $660,000 to $830,000 at recent auctions.

The Point
RUF never made another 928. This is it. The only W09-VIN example ever manufactured. One car, one owner for decades, barely driven.
If you collect RUFs, or Porsches, or simply cars that shouldn’t exist, the auction is at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island sale.
