Known as the ‘Empty Quarter’, the Rubʿ al-Khali desert constitutes the largest portion of the Arabian Desert, covering around 250,000 square miles (650,000 square km). It is the largest area of continuous sand in the world, and it is also one of the driest regions in the world. BOLDR Ambassador Jukka Viljanen will be undertaking a daring expedition on foot across this unforgiving terrain in early 2023. Jukka will brave through scorching heat and varied topography of soft sands, sand dunes, salt flats, and sand sheets, with some areas reaching as high as 2,000 feet (610 meters) above sea level.
