In 2020 Seiko introduced added the SPB125J1 to their ‘Black Series’ Prospex Limited Edition dive watches. The SPB125J1 is limited to 7,000 pieces worldwide. According to Seiko, the Black Series watches are inspired by night diving and are designed for maximum legibility.
The SPB125J1 features the 6R35 automatic movement which was released in 2019. It operates at 21,600 bph and has a 70 hour power reserve. The case is coated with “hard black coating” according to Seiko, which translates to ‘DLC’ or ‘PVD’ coating. It also features a screw-down crown and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The dial has tan colored Lumibrite indicies and an orange minute hand. The SPB125J1 it’s a stealthy version of Seiko’s famous ‘Sumo’ series with a touch of vintage design cues. It’s built like a tank and the black case matched with the sword-like hands makes it stand out.
This ‘Full set’ Seiko Prospex Sumo Black Series Limited edition SPB125J1 from 2021 is in excellent condition. The watch is worn but has no visible dents or scratches on the case or crystal. There are hairlines on the case back. And minor signs of wear on the rubber band.
